Sean Cotter was born in Toronto, Canada. In 1976 he moved to San Francisco, where he founded a publishing services company with his wife Nancy Warner. By the mid-1980s he was also working as coordinator of Editcetera, an association of publishing professionals. He incorporated the organization as a non-profit and initiated a series of editorial workshops that are still going strong today. In the 1990s he began a new career as a freelance technical writer for Apple and other high-tech companies, eventually taking an in-house job as the security writer for Netscape in 1997. He became product manager for the directory and security engineering team when it was purchased by Red Hat in 2004. |
